Direct-drive technology, the heart of the entire system

Patented DirectDrive technology is at the heart of the LEITWIND wind turbine: it consists of the direct connection between the rotor and the generator, eliminating the need for a gearbox. A smaller number of high-speed rotating parts means higher efficiency and reliability, as well as reduced costs linked to wear and maintenance.

Technology

The advantages of Modular design

LEITWIND wind turbines are designed according to a modular concept, composed by separate groups: the hub, the generator, the blades, the tower head and the main frame. The modular design offers a high level of standardisation among the different wind turbines and notable advantages from the production stage through to maintenance and logistics, making it possible, for example, to install them on sites that are difficult to access, such as mountain areas.

Technology

LEITWIND WIND TURBINES

BLADES

The blades capture the power of the wind in their rotational motion.

TOWER

The tower elevates and supports the rest of the structure into the wind. It grants access to nacelle and shelters the energy transforming station at its root.

HUB

The hub transforms the motion of the blades into mechanical power. It also hosts the pitch system.

PICH SYSTEM

The pitch system controls the power captured by the blades (by varying their angle of attach) and acts as main braking system

DirectDrive

The DirectDrive generator is integrated in the main structure and converts mechanical to electrical power.

MAIN FRAME

The main frameconnects the Direct Drive generator to the tower, it carries the control system and the yaw system.

YAW SYSTEM

The yaw system allows the nacelle to turn relative to the tower, keeping it upwind.
