HTI GROUP
We move people.

LEITWIND is part of the HTI group of industrial companies which is operating on a global scale in the areas of ropeways (Leitner, Poma, Bartholet and Agudio), snow groomers, crawler carriers and vegetation management systems (Prinoth and Jarraff), snowmaking and dust binding systems (Demaclenko and WLP), digitalized ski area management (Skadii), wind energy (Leitwind) and also hydropower (Troyer). Currently almost 4,300 employees work for the HTI group, spread across 20 production sites, 84 subsidiaries and 144 sales and service offices worldwide.

Wind power in ski resorts

Wind energy may prove to be the key to achieving energy independence in mountain tourism with significant advantages such as lower electricity tariffs and the possibility of producing energy on-site while ensuring maximum respect for the climate and surrounding nature.

Wind power produces clean energy on site when it is needed most, such as for snowmaking at night. Ski resorts already have the infrastructure in place to take advantage of wind power, particularly at high altitudes where wind conditions are optimal.

LEITWIND’s modular and compact designs have made wind turbine transport and installation easier than ever. Unlike other forms of renewable energy, wind power requires very little space and does not spoil the natural landscape.

This is especially important in sensitive alpine environments, where LEITWIND turbines can provide the electricity needed for ropeways, snowmaking, hotels, and restaurants in a quiet and efficient manner, thanks to their DirectDrive generators.

By relying on wind energy, ski resorts can become more energy independent and reduce their carbon footprint, meeting the demands of environmentally conscious tourists.

DIRECTDRIVE

The LEITWIND success story began with the HTI Group's expertise in ropeways, which led to the development of a wind turbine with maximum efficiency. Indeed, HTI’s proprietary direct electric drive (DirectDrive) was transposed from a ropeway to the top of a wind turbine, producing significant improvements in operational performance and efficiency. DirectDrive is an in-house development which eliminates the need for a gearbox, resulting in a simpler design, lower maintenance, and reduced downtime. This innovative, patented synchronous generator features permanent magnets and offers some striking advantages:

  • Optimal efficiency at all operating points
  • Simpler design (reduced number of rotating parts)
  • Lower maintenance and high reliability
  • Reduced mechanical and electrical losses
  • Increased availability and productivity
  • Increased reliability and profitability
