Leitner Spa has been selected for its contribution to the energy transition and development in Southern Italy and is therefore awarded the "Sustainability Awards 2024 - Clean and Accessible Energy - Objective 7". Sonia Santoro, managing director of LEITWIND Service Srl, will receive the award during the ceremony on Saturday 13 April at 16.00 at Villa Scapolatiello, Badia di Cava de' Tirreni (SA).

The Sustainability Awards are part of the 'Sustainable Community Districts' project, an initiative by UCID Campania and Confassociazione Campania aimed at creating local Sustainable Districts. The event is organised and promoted to give recognition to people and companies in the area or that have produced value for the community, contributing to the achievement of UN goals.

UN Sustainable Goal No. 7 'Clean and Affordable Energy' is part of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, defined by the United Nations to be achieved by 2030, designed to achieve a more sustainable future for all.
Leitwind Service Srl, a company founded in 2012 and part of the High Technology Industries (HTI) Group, specialises in the routine and extraordinary maintenance of wind turbines, ancillary activities for the Leitwind wind turbine park, and component remanufacturing. In 2020, the HTI Group intensified its presence in Southern Italy by acquiring and modernising a plant in the Calaggio Industrial Zone (Lacedonia, AV).
The plant has a total area of over 17,000 square metres, with a covered area of about 2,400 square metres dedicated to warehousing and production, and is located in a strategic position between the regions of Campania, Apulia and Basilicata, where about 90% of the more than 130 wind turbines maintained are located.

Not only do business sectors such as service, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, assembly, warehousing & logistics converge here, but there is also a modern, well-equipped workshop where LEITWIND wind turbine components can be refurbished, extending their life cycle and promoting an integrated circular economy system. In 2023 alone, more than 750 components including permanent magnets, brake calipers, hydraulic power packs and electric motors were refurbished. The refurbished components are tested and certified to guarantee high quality and functional standards in compliance with occupational safety regulations.

In the near future, further investments are planned in the area with an extension of the plant, turning it into a state-of-the-art HUB. The project includes:
  • The creation of a new modern and self-sustainable plant of approximately 2,000 square metres;
  • An increase in activities and jobs, with the aim of offering cost savings and a reduction in procurement times;
  • The establishment of a Renewable Energy Community (REC) in the area surrounding the plant. Specifically, the feasibility study has already been successfully completed, while the authorisation permits to allow the installation of a wind turbine to serve the CER are in the final stages of acquisition;
"Being awarded a recognition of this magnitude not only celebrates the efforts made so far, but serves as an incentive to persevere in this direction. Pursuing the sustainable goals of the UN Agenda not only makes companies more sustainable, but also makes them more attractive to potential employees, thus reflecting a tangible commitment to social and environmental responsibility." Sonia Santoro, CEO LEITWIND Service Srl.
