Are small wind turbines worth it?

The installation of the first LTW90 wind farm in Sicily in September 2024 highlights the growing demand for small and medium-sized wind turbines. In recent years, Leitwind has successfully strengthened its position in this sector, also thanks to the LTW42 and LTW90 models, specifically developed for this application field.

In what power ratings are Leitwind wind turbines available?
The nominal power of Leitwind wind turbines ranges from 250 kW to 3,000 kW. Small and medium-sized enterprises are particularly interested in turbines with power up to 1,000 kW (1 megawatt). The LTW42 and LTW90 models have established themselves in this field. The LTW42 model is available in nominal powers of 250 and 500 kW, while the LTW90 is available in nominal powers of 500, 900, 950, 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 kW.

What is the smallest wind turbine in the Leitwind range?
The smallest wind turbine we currently offer is the LTW42 turbine, available starting from 250 kW. The first LTW42 in the United States is currently under construction in Tooele, Utah, where only a few suppliers offer turbines with a rotor diameter below 100 meters. For this reason, we see great potential for our small wind turbines in this geographic area.

Is it worthwhile to install Megawatt-class wind turbines?
Leitwind Megawatt-class wind turbines have many advantages: they have been developed to be environmentally friendly, have a low visual impact, can be installed quickly and easily, and generate low-cost electricity that can also be consumed on-site, allowing for greater energy independence.

How to choose the right wind turbine?
Before realizing your wind farm, our team checks which wind turbine model is most suitable for your project. Thanks to our extensive product portfolio, we can meet even the most complex needs.

How do wind turbines convert wind energy into electricity?
Wind energy is converted into electricity, but how exactly does wind energy work? The wind initially causes the blades to rotate. Thanks to the adjustment of the blades and the yaw system, the blades and the nacelle are always oriented toward the wind, ensuring optimal production. The hub then converts this rotational movement into mechanical energy, and the generator further transforms it into electrical energy. The wind turbine tower supports the nacelle and the rotor blades, provides access to them, and houses the transformer station at its base, which connects the wind turbine to the electrical grid.

Are Leitwind wind turbines suitable for energy communities?

Always check local regulations regarding energy communities. Our LTW90 turbine has been specifically developed for supplying energy communities and for single-turbine projects thanks to its large rotor diameter.

How reliable are Leitwind wind turbines?
Thanks to the highest quality standards and maximum care in design, development, product manufacturing, delivery, and installation, we guarantee an average technical availability of up to 97%. We constantly strive to adapt our products to the evolution of standards and national requirements. For example, we recently obtained the CEI-016 certification for Italy and the GL2010 certification (for LTW42).
